My first concert as Ariyakudi’s disciple was at Tirupathi with Palakkad C.R.Mani Iyer and Vellore Ramabhadran as accompanists.
Sri C. R. MANI IYER Born on 9-5-1915, son of Violin Vidwan C. A.Ramakrishna Bhagavathar (brother of Mrudanga vidwan Late C. A. Subbaiyer) his first Guru was his greatfarther Annaswamy Bhagavathar and continued his studies in music under Late Palaghal Rama Bhagavathar. For 2 years he learnt violin and finding his talents, Chowiah volantanlylound took him to Mysore at the age of 13. Mani Iyer was the First student of Chowdiah. Atter.7 years of intensive violin practice, Mani started accompanying Chowdiah in his solo recitals Man. gained good experience under the guidance of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar and started accompanying him. He started accompanying leading vidwans like Ar.yakkudu Semmangud., Madurai Mani, Alathur Brothers, Palghat Rama Bhagavathur Tiger varadachar, Vasudevachari, Mudikondan Venkatarama Iyer etc., Mam served AIR Tnchy in 1937-38. He has performed all over India and participated in the National programme and Sangeetha Sammelans of AIR. Mani is the first and senior most disciple of Chowiah. In connection with the Birth Cenetenary of Chowdiah, C. R. MAN! is felicitated by the Percussive Arts Centre.
